It's hard to describe the experience of watching this film. It's harrowing, tense, and shell-shocking. Christopher Nolan has put the audience on the beaches of Dunkirk, on the fishing boats, and into the spitfires during the greatest evacuation of World War II. Only the most talented directors can sustain tension. An audience cannot be stressed for two hours unless the story being told is engrossing. It must capture the audience. Dunkirk needs almost no exposition - it is told by a single piece of paper. From there, the film explodes. Then, the tension and suspense begin and do not leave you until the film ends.

Chronology is weird. Beach has no craters and they’re standing they’re for days on end with no food, water or bathroom facilities? Stunningly boring. Leaves out a lot of important details considering it’s based on true events. For me this is the worst Nolan film I’ve watched.

Nolan, Don't stop making good films like this. Dunkirk is thrilling, amazing in sound and cinematography, and overall an amazing war film.

A spectacular show. Dunkirk, or the great escape - a dramatic struggle for survival in a moving cinematographic tribute to the victims.

Nothing happens, and it's absolutely exhilarating.

No one does it like Nolan. Can’t wait for Odyssey

Wow, nice Christoffer Nolan, the soundtrack is just wow

I place this at #2 on Nolan’s list of films (controversial I know). A lesser known and revisited story from WW2 that is shot beautifully and crafted uniquely - the first watch through is a joy. I find myself coming back for the dogfights and ending monologue frequently.

I agree with filming on location in Dunkirk, but Nolan should have shelled it for weeks with artillery first for maximum authenticity. How could he forget that part?

Personally, I didn’t find the story engaging, interesting, or solid. I didn’t fully understand the plot, and I think it’s too weak. However, the ending and all the visual and special effects are really beautiful.

An absence of dialogue and a nerve racking score keep you tense through this war thriller. Superb dog fights. Entertaining multi-story.

What an absolute masterpiece. A perfect blend of cinematography, editing acting and directing by the master himself. Great perfect balance of story and action

Dunkirk (2017) is about an event and wasn’t cast for star power, but for presence. The acting is intentionally understated, which brings quiet heroism without ever giving a speech. These guys aren’t performing feelings; they’re surviving. You’re not “following a story”; you’re being dragged through an event with parts of the story told through tension rather than dialogue. The film isn’t trying to make you cry; it’s trying to make you feel trapped.

War is hell, but hope will light the way out. A technical tour-de-force from Christopher Nolan about the real-life rescue of hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers abandoned and stranded on the beaches of Dunkirk, France early in WWII. Depressing topic, shot beautifully, winding together four or five storylines masterfully.

Tells a very important story, it has moments of dragging on and losing focus on what it is trying to say to the viewer. It doesn’t give me the ability to invested in the character’s.
