- vangh110 agosto 2026How does this manage to be equally effective as both a scathing political satire, and an upbeat teen comedy? Like <i>My Cousin Vinny</i> before it, <i>Dick</i> takes two genres that by all rights shouldn't work together, and somehow makes them into a singular work that is as memorable as it is excellent. The plotting is surprisingly tight in this thing. The events of the film move along in such away that we never question that it's actually two well-meaning if slightly ignorant teenage girls that caused basically every iota of the Watergate scandal to come to light at every step, and it NEVER feels completely ridiculous, contrived, or unbelievable within the scope of the movie. Was a bit tough watching in 2026 as Nixon deletes 18 and a half minutes of tape at even the outside prospect of any inappropriate conduct with a 15 year old given the current state of things. I've said a couple of times in the past couple of years that it feels like we're living in a post-satire world because of how brazen and ridiculous the bad actors of our time have been. Watching this, I feel like my faith has a been a little bit restored, not for us now, but it just sort of reinforced that old chestnut that "tragedy + time = comedy" and if I could snap my fingers and have the team from this movie make another political satire in 2050 about today, I suspect it just might work. I appreciated that the girls were never treated as simple or stupid, they were just teenage girls focused on the things teenage girls focus on and seeing this world through that lens. Seeing pre-movie star Ryan Reynolds was wild. Makes me half-believe anybody can become a Hollywood's Hottest with the right team. It's super clear that Star Lord was a huge fan of the soundtrack of this movie. Every time another Guardians song came up I laughed a bit more. "We're not stupid teenagers. We're human beings. And American citizens. And four score and seven years ago our forefathers... did something. I don't know what. But I do know this... Dick's ass is grass."
