Michael left home when he was a teenager and never looked back. Now, after the death of his sister, Chloe, he's returning home with his fiancee Juliette and his angst ridden nephew Brandon. On arrival, they realize that home isn't exactly what it used to be. With high walls surrounding the house and security cameras in every nook and cranny it's more of a military compound than anything else. Enter Gary, Michael's estranged father who, while happy to be reunited with his son and grandson, seems more distracted by other things. As the strange family reunion commences, an uninvited guest shows up and we learn bits and pieces about the real reason behind Chloe's death and why Brandon is so closed off from Michael. This fractured family will have to come together to fight the ghosts of their pasts and make it out alive!

My quick rating - 5.2/10. Nice to see Tyler Mane in a role other than his typecast fare. You know him (sorta) as Sabretooth or Michael Myers, but here, Tyler shows he can act, along with writing and producing. Michael receives a frantic call from his estranged, eccentric (and extremely paranoid) father, Gary (Muse Watson), who is obsessed with building an unassailable compound. Once they arrive at Gary’s modest home, surrounded by acres and acres of grounds full of cameras and other security sensors, Michael is surprised and concerned to learn that his father is in the early stages of dementia. The house is now also covered in supernatural and occult symbols. Here is where Michael (Mane) and his family must confront a spirit (Michael's brother) that took his sister's life. When Michael stumbles into the murder, he shoots his brother, leading to a short trip into the afterlife of the angry soul. The movie itself delves into the occult-type transition into the afterlife, which the family had knowledge of for generations. Not all pass on happily; some stay on a ruthless rampage. The gore is minimal, which worked for the film since the characters did a fairly good job acting out a well-written screenplay to keep your attention. Far from a classic movie, but it will definitely make a fan of horror movies satisfied with a nice story, good images, kills when needed, and all the bells and whistles to bring you back to an age of horror movies that don't need gore and cheap scares to drive the movie. Kudos to the casting director for bringing icons of the horror genre together into this movie (Derrick Mears and Muse Watson, along with Tyler Mane) are very memorable faces from movies and TV that I am sure you have seen (I kept calling Watson "Franks" from his NCIS days LOL ) Overall a great first effort from this team and I look forward to what Mane and Geerlings can bring to the table in the future.
