Il film si apre nella residenza di campagna di Sir James Bond (David Niven), una leggendaria spia inglese ritiratasi dal servizio segreto 50 anni prima, nel 1917. Gli fanno visita il capo del MI6 Britannico, M (John Huston), il rappresentante della CIA Ransome (William Holden), il rappresentante del KGB Smernov (Kurt Kasznar) e il rappresentante del Deuxième Bureau Le Grand (Charles Boyer). Ognuno a turno lo implora di rientrare in servizio perché una misteriosa organizzazione chiamata SMERSH sta eliminando numerose spie in giro per il mondo. Bond declina le offerte e persino la richiesta che la regina d'Inghilterra gli ha fatto pervenire per lettera. M spiega ai suoi colleghi il motivo del ritiro di Bond dal servizio attivo: l'amore della sua vita, la famosa spia Mata Hari. A causa della sua ostinazione nel rifiutarsi, M ordina di distruggere la residenza di Bond, restando però lui stesso ucciso nell'esplosione.

- Zokkiie5 gg faThis is an absolute disaster, even by parody standards. It tries to be funny and chaotic, but mostly it’s just exhausting and messy. The pacing is all over the place, the jokes rarely hit, and the whole thing feels like a collection of random ideas glued together with no sense of direction. Every once in a while there’s a hint of something clever, but it gets buried under endless awkwardness. Watching it feels like work, not entertainment.

- marshalsea23 agosto 2025I remember watching this as a kid and finding it quite naughty/saucy, and it is. Well played Bond parody, which when you read about the production and Seller's childish behaviour, how they saved this is simply an amazing feat. The story goes a bit wonky, and have a read and you'll realise why, but for all of that it's just a blast of fun. Not at all hurt by Herb and Burt providing some of the best music ever produced. Go into this not expecting Bond but a genuine fun film and you won't be too disappointed.
