Eleonora, an Italian woman in the late 1940's, finds herself in a new, empty apartment, alone for the first time in her life. Amidst the brick walls that surround her she is haunted by memories of a past pain, so crippling she can't move beyond it. But it is her neighbors kindness, a well meaning pregnant housewife who is just as lonely, which may prove to be the catalyst to bring Eleonora to the brink of confession and usher her into the freedom that lies on the other side of the walls of her broken past.
