Vicende di una compagnia della 101° divisione aerotrasportata americana, accerchiata a Bastogne (Belgio) nell'inverno 1944, durante la controffensiva tedesca delle Ardenne. Wellman sfalda la statua retorica dell'eroe combattente per mostrare la guerra nella sua terribile e umile realtà, attraverso una serie di annotazioni molto realistiche. Oscar per la sceneggiatura (R. Pirosh) e la fotografia (P.C. Vogel).

    Very good movie. one of my favorites.

    This is a war movie that centers on the soldiers and their hardships instead of the action. Not everyone is brave, or their deaths heroic. It still felt genuine, even if the battle scenes were lacking.
