Uno psicologo, una biologa e un brillante matematico vengono mandati sul fondo del mare per indagare su un vascello ricoperto da coralli centenari. L'imbarcazione si è resa responsabile della rottura di un cavo sottomarino che improvvisamente torna a galla. All'interno del relitto, che in seguito si scopre proveniente da un pianeta alieno, viene trovata una sfera enigmatica che esercita un'attrazione inspiegabile sui componenti della spedizione.

A great concept, rendered a bit silly by the details of the script, with frankly preposterous casting of Samuel L. Jackson as a mathematician and others including Queen Latifah and Peter Coyote left shouting wildly in an effort to make the whole thing look plausible. One only imagines what a better director would have done with the material.
