Un ragazzino, Mike, mentre assiste nel cimitero di Perigord alla tumulazione della salma di un amico di suo fratello Jody, è testimone di un fatto inquietante. Convintosi che il becchino, un uomo alto e dall'aspetto sinistro, abbia trafugato la bara portandosela via nel suo carro funebre, Mike cerca di avvertire Jody, che però non gli crede. Per scoprire la verità, a Mike non resta altro da fare che introdursi notte tempo nel locale mausoleo, dove assiste alle tremende operazioni del becchino: costui è in reltà il "Tall Man", una creatura proveniente da un'altra dimensione, che trasforma i cadaveri in ripugnanti gnomi dal sangue giallastro ed è protetto da micidiali sfere di metallo volanti...
