An extraordinary insight into the mind and drive of a genius. I'm no Formula 1 superfan, by any stretch, but similarly to The Last Dance, this film delves into the psyche and determination of what it means to be a winner, at all costs. The mentality to push and push and push, with the chequered flag being the only thing of consequence. As is often the case, the man himself was not without fault or critisicm during his time at the top, and the documentary nevers shies away from these aspects. It does, however, paint the picture of someone who became a symbol for a sport, and indeed an entire nation, as excellence was strained for. The outcome is already known, and this aspect is respectfully covered. Instead of focussing on this as his legacy, however, the great man himself, his achievements, his rivalries and his inspirations are front and centre. The extended edition is highly recommended, and more so, for those from a sporting background.
