A supernatural series about some weird stuff going on at a desert retirement community. Instead of a rag tag group of kids as you would expect this day and age you get a rag tag group of grumpy or eccentric old people. It's got aliens and creepy characters who are trying to live forever. The plot gets a little out there at times but overall I was able to get on board with it after a few episodes. I enjoyed it till the end. Great cast and well acted. While I don't think I will be back for a rewatch I think it was worth the experience and would be interested if they come out with a season 2. They did insinuate a season 2 may be possible with how the season ended.
It was decent. In light of Practical Magic 2 coming out I thought I would give the first one a try. It has some good qualities. A little bit of whimsy. A little bit of wonder. But just a little bit. I found myself wishing they went a little further into the magic of witch craft. It was a bit bland in that department. It's a feel good movie with love and the drama surrounding it as it's main focal point so I am not really the target audience; but I found it watchable. Unfortunately I was not very engaged with the story or characters. I found the two aunts the most interesting and wish they had a bigger part to play. This movie is not something I would watch again but it does have me interested enough to check out the sequel.
There is goofy fun dystopian satire and then there is this. It wasn't fun. It was dumb.
Most of the humor falls flat. I don't even know what Sandra Bullock is trying to be. It's like 1984 meets Space Balls. I see what they were trying to do and I think it actually is a accurate depiction of where we are headed.
It is a bit too satirical for me. I like some seriousness underlying all the ridiculousness but this is not that movie. It's constantly making fun of itself and the characters are over the top in the worst way. It almost got to so bad it's good territory but not quite.
Denis Leary was the only highlight for me as he was the only one that didn't seem like he was in a bad high school play.
I think Total Recall and Escape from New York hit the mark much better when trying to make this kind of movie.
Not something I would ever want to come back to or be a part of my collection.
The scene at the beginning with the gasoline may have ruined the whole movie for me. Did nobody on set realize gasoline doesn't work that way! Come on lol.
Amazing. Wonderful. Sci-fi royalty. I'm am always in awe over what they were able to accomplish effects wise in 1979. Incredible how well this film holds up to this day. I bow down.
This show continues to be entertaining and engaging. The past 3 seasons have me fully invested and looking forward to Season 4. The season 3 final had me guessing who was behind the leads kidnapping right up until almost the very end. Season 4 should be very interesting!
One of my childhood favorites growing up. It is hard for me to critique this movie as I have such a fondness for it. It has many flaws I did not see as a child born in 1985; 2 years after the release of this movie. As an adult I choose to look over these flaws as I would with a loved one; they add to its character.
This movie and many other during that time such as the Ewok movies were just what my little soft brain was looking for. Fun simple stories with cool effects and weapons. The Glaive may have single handedly imprinted in my psyche my love for cool weapons. Is it coincidence later in life I would become a bladesmith and forever lover of blades of all kinds. The Glaive may be one of the coolest bladed weapons ever depicted on film. It flies, it slices, fits neatly into your belt with retractable blades, and even comes when called if not stuck in the belly of a horrible beast.
We also get a young Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrain. This bombed in the box office. I'm not even sure how I saw this as a young child but I remember it as a wonderfully fun little fantasy story. This part of my childhood will never leave my movie collection.
I got quite a few laughs out of this movie and was thoroughly entertained. The characters and special effects are the highlights for me. While the story line of a giant space starfish controlled by a greedy Corto Maltesian government and military is adequate. It is overshadowed in a good way by the unique characters that make up the Suicide Squads. Yes I said squads as there are multiple in this film. Rick Flag is great again. The silly banter between Bloodsport and Peacemaker is hilarious. I also love how naive Ratcatcher 2 is. King Shark gets me every time as he almost has a split personality. One second he can be kind of goofy and fun trying to fit in. The next he is ripping someone in half. The special effects are colorful and vibrant. The movie also has a decent little happyish ending. If you're looking for a crazy gory good time this might be for you. This has a solid spot on my movie wall. I've come back to it a few times when I just want to space out to some DC comic fun.
I love the Suicide Squad. From the music, colorful title cards, characters, and cheesy plot line I was hooked. For some reason it gets quite a bit of hate but for me its a great comic book movie that has just the right amount of goofiness, heart felt moments, and action. Yes the dialogue is cringe at times but for me it just adds to the vibe of the movie. The line Rick Flag tells the squad about Katana’s sword trapping the souls of it victims is freaking hilarious and fun. And that is just one of so many stupidly hilarious one liners.
Directed by David Ayer who is known for films like Fury, End of Watch, Street Kings, and Harsh Times. He has a varying array of movies he has directed. I think Suicide Squad is in his top 5 for me. While his most recent films have been Jason Statham films which can be hit or miss. The ones he directed recently were A working Man and The Beekeeper. Admittedly, not my favorite movies.
The plot of this movie is simple. The Ole Evil Witch scenario that wants to destroy the world. The characters and how they are shown is what makes this movie entertaining. The pacing keeps things moving right along and I never really got bored at any point. It’s fun and stupid from begging to end. Amanda Waller played by Viola Davis is perfect in this role. I would be scared of her too. We also even get a Batman appearance! This movie is the first time we get to see Rick Flag played by Joel Kinnaman. Who I think does a really great job with this role. In this movie each character or member of the squad gets a little backstory segment that I found fun and unique. We get to see each of their skill sets and little bit of why they ended up where they ended up.
Griggs was hilarious and we even get a whole side quest sub plot involving The Joker and Harley Quinn. Jared Leto I wouldn’t say nails The Joker but it’s unique and kinda grows on you. I think you can say the Margo Robbie nails Harley Quinn. She doesn’t necessarily have that crazy eye look I think Harley should have but we can’t have it all.
I have rewatched this many times so I have to add it to The Movie Wall Wall Wall…
Loved every extended minute of this movie. I've seen it so many times now and it holds up. I feel like they did a lot more practical effects in this film than they did in The Hobbit films. I could be wrong. But it's all amazing. I saw an interesting video about the construction of the Orc stronghold and the filming of it. So amazing it was all made by hand. I think it adds so much depth to the film. CGI just can't accomplish yet. There is something beautiful about practical effects I pray we never lose.
This cast is so good. I remember watching this when it came out and I don't think it dawned on me till later in life what an amazing story this is. I just got the books on audible and am looking forward to binging them soon.
Re-watchablilty is strong with this film and will have a permanent place on my movie wall.
I love the story so much. I just finished reading the book for the first time since I attempted but didn’t finish it as a kid. I am one of those people that got drawn back to the books as an adult after seeing the movies. I think they did a fine job adapting The Hobbit to film. I find it interesting that they spread a relatively short book into 3 movies. It’s fun seeing what is coming right from the book and what kind of filler they are using to fill the gaps. I thoroughly enjoy the world and the characters. While the movie doesn’t necessarily make me feel any real deep emotions; it’s a really fun watch tagging along on this ride with Bilbo, Gandalph, and the dwarves. Looking forward to rewatching the next movie and giving it a review. The story is a classic so it’s got a permanent spot on my movie wall.
I love everything about the Harry Potter universe. I'll probably give every single movie in this series a 95%. The books are amazing and they did a really great job at adapting them to film. Almost perfect in my eyes. It's been a slow burn for me as I've gotten older my love for this story has only gotten stronger. Who doesn't love wizards and magic. The plot is simple but something we can all relate too. That dream that we are secretly special and it just hasn't been revealed to us yet. It's something we all fantasize about.
Each movie in this series has its own character. I think this first one has more down to earth whimsy than some of the others. It's innocent and fun. In my opinion it has some of the best material to work from. The beginning of Harry's story is the best. Him finding out he's a wizard and dipping his toes into the magical world for the first time. So good! Experiencing Diagon Alley and seeing Hogwarts on screen for the first time was awesome.
I've watched this over and over again. This movie and the rest of them in the series will never leave my movie wall collection.
An artist and a writer from the UK come to America for the first time with the goal of touring alien hotspots. After they meet an actual real life alien shenanigans ensue. You can't get much better than this plot line for a fun time. Especially if your a nerd like me and love all things alien, writing, and art.
The cast is great. You can't go wrong with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Janson Bateman, Kristen Wiig, and Bill Hader and more. As well as Seth Rogan voicing the alien. It all comes together so well. It's goofy and the comedy hits for me.
I've watched this more times than I can count and it has a solid spot in my movie collection.
It's good! I have found myself coming back to this for multiple watches now. The strong points in my opinion are Robert Pattinson does a great job as a younger Batman. While he is nowhere near as jacked as I want to see a young batman (please lets just CGI some more muscles on at this point). With how obsessive Bruce Wayne is you know he would be obsessive over his physique and conditioning. As well as his mastery of martial arts. We want to see that! Pattinson gets the attitude and vibe right. Cat Woman was ok. Gordon was Ok. Alfred, Carmine, and The Riddler were all ok. Penguin was amazing. Those practical effects were crazy.
I enjoyed the dark and moody Gotham. I found myself wanting to pause the movie on many scenes because I wanted to take in the background.
I also really enjoyed the Batman tech. By that I mean his suit, "weapons", and his lair. Everything was more toned down and a little more realistic for this movie. That is a good thing in my opinion. Makes him and his situation feel more real. That said we still have the very non real things going on which is expected for a Batman. I slightly cringed, but then was impressed, then laughed when he glided off the building just to smack his head on an underpass and eat shit. Walks it off. lol. His car was super cool.
It's on my movie wall for now. I hope we keep going in this direction for Batman. I like more dark and gritty. They should lean in to what the audience wants. I don't think we want lame goofy over the top super hero movies anymore. The audience that enjoys this stuff are adults now and we want rated R Batman!
