But the real crime here is the show's insufferable need to project sophistication... all those moody lighting shots and somber piano chords...which only serves to underscore Australia's perennial, cringeworthy desperation for cultural validation. The entire series reeks of that nanny-state hind-tit mentality: self-important, risk-averse, and suffocatingly safe, as if terrified of offending anyone or taking a single genuine risk. Even Sam Neill looks bored out of his mind, and honestly, who can blame him? This isn't a thriller; it's a ten-episode snooze-fest that mistakes blandness for gravitas, leaving you convinced that the most exciting thing about Australians is watching them try..and fail to be interesting.
