It follows a family scraping by in every sense — emotionally, financially, and spiritually — yet somehow managing to keep it together with swearing, sarcasm, and a sort of feral affection. This is British comedy at its most honest: rough-edged, occasionally bleak, and utterly human. It’s about people who’ve been dealt bad hands but still play the game anyway, often turning survival itself into a kind of comedy. The writing hits that perfect blend of crude and clever, and while the circumstances are grim, the humour never is. You’ll laugh with the characters, not at them — mostly because you recognise the truth in their chaos. It’s a sitcom with dirt under its nails and heart in its sleeve.
