Mad Men
- naren shenoy3 mars 2026One of the best show ever made. Complex characters are the heart and soul of the show, with so many award worthy performances across the board, but of course, this is the show that put John Hamm on the map. And rightfully so. I’ve never seen a writing crew and actor so deftly make a character that should be a “villain” into someone you like and pull for, even though you know he is just doing things are plain wrong. Don Draper is not a villain in the sense that he steals and murders people. But he lies and cheats wherever he can, but perhaps he lies more to himself than he does to others. Don Draper’s journey is the star of the show, but Elizabeth Olsen’s Peggy is the woman who claws her way through the glass ceiling but never really is one of the gals and never really one of the guys. Vincent Kartheiser’s turn as the heel, Pete Campbell, who could be your best friend or your arch nemesis at the drop of a dime was one of the best guilty pleasures on the show, and so easy to root against. Richard Sterling, the embodiment of generational wealth and the entitlement that it comes with. Sal, a gay man in an era that would never understand him or allow him to be honest about who he is. Joan, who wanted to be more than the office sex symbol. Betty… simply one of the most gorgeous women you will ever see, but masks a childishness under practiced layers of social etiquette. Such a great cast of actors and characters. Ultimately it is a story about the lies we tell each other, and the lies we tell ourselves…A must watch.
- Charles London17 février 2025For anyone who lived through the 1960's, watching this series is a tremendous way to immerse yourself in the nostalgia of the decade, the fashions, the cars, the architecture, the decor, OMG the booze and cigarette culture, and yes of course the drugs. I loved how historical events of the decade, and what a decade it was, were worked into storylines. Top-notch creative writing overall, I mean did you ever think you would see (spoiler alert) an incompetent secretary lose control of a riding lawnmower on the 35th story of a Manhattan skyscraper severing the foot of a corporate executive? Lead actors, Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss, are superb in their respective roles as unforgettably complex Don Draper and little engine that could, Peggy Olson.
