Catweazle, a scruffy 11th century wizard, accidentally time travels to 1970s England and finds himself bewildered by telephones (“telling bones”), electricity (“elec trickery”) and cars (“iron horses”). With the help of two kind hearted boys, first Carrot, then Cedric, he tries to find his way back to his own time, armed only with spells, superstition and a frog named Touchwood. Geoffrey Bayldon’s performance is pure gold: eccentric, heartfelt and hilariously confused. The show blends gentle comedy with a wistful sense of displacement, a man out of time, clinging to magic in a world that runs on machines. Watching it again feels like opening a dusty storybook from your childhood, one filled with laughter, wonder and a touch of melancholy. It’s quirky, charming and deeply British in the best way.

La série mettait en scène Geoffrey Bayldon dans le rôle principal, un vieux sorcier du XIe siècle excentrique, incompétent, échevelé et malodorant (mais adorable) qui voyage accidentellement dans le temps jusqu'en 1970 et se lie d'amitié avec un jeune garçon roux, surnommé Carrot (Robin Davies), qui passe la majeure partie du reste de la série à essayer de cacher Catweazle à son père et à Sam, l'ouvrier de la ferme. Pendant ce temps, Catweazle cherche un moyen de retourner à son époque en se cachant dans le "Château Saburac", un château d'eau désaffecté, avec son "Familier", un crapaud appelé Touchwood.
