1980s. Judge Irina Polyakova is forced to conduct the trial of a young rock musician who is accused of several murders. According to Soviet law, he faces capital punishment, and Irina is not eager to condemn a man to death. But the chairman of the Court, Valeriy, with whom Irina has an old romance, persuades her to take up this case. In return he promises to finally divorce his wife at the end of the trial.
