After hitting her head, a bartender and aspiring stand-up comic named Charley encounters a young and drunk Mark Twain. She springs Twain from a police entanglement and helps him get back on his feet, as Twain befriends her rebellious nephew. When he's not writing fake newspaper articles or experimenting with stand-up, Twain gets the nephew in (and out) of school trouble and guides Charley towards a comedy career.
