There is no lack of adrenaline-pumping action, accompanied by a soundtrack that will have your heart racing in sync. It presents a timeless narrative of improbable success and heart-wrenching loss, interwoven with the roar of engines and thrill of conflict.
- Charles London7 avril 2025I first saw this movie when it was released to theaters in 1986. The flight sequences were electrifying and spectacular. It felt like you were up in the air flying with the planes. The scenes in between however, were a lot less spectacular, especially the Hollywood love-story which felt contrived and unbelievable. I would liken the experience to visiting a theme park on a crowded day. Going on the big rides is thrilling, but the waiting lines in between, not so much. All in all though, it's a fun time. Streaming the movie today on a home screen doesn't quite recreate the theater experience. The soundtrack is still just as impressive and the flight sequences still look prertty darn good, but they loose half a star on a smaller screen. As for the rest of the film... well, it still is what it is, a queue between thrill rides.

Watched this with our kids for the first time since they’re looking forward to Top Gun: Maverick. Loaded with classic one-liners, iconic scenes, and a seminal soundtrack, it’s hard not to give this high marks even if some of the elements don’t hold up as well as others. 4.5 stars easy.

- Pissed Off Papa16 octobre 2025Everytime I hear Harold or Kenny Loggins play their songs, I just have to watch this movie. This is by far the best out of the 2 movies, and we get to see Val Kilmer shine bright. I cant even count how many times I have watched this and will continue to watch it over and over.

But, compared to modern films, the original doesn't hold up as well as it used to, and for new viewers is one and a half hours of tropes they've seen and scenes that've been bested by other films - like the sequel.
