Le Tombeur de ces demoiselles Notations et commentaires
- Tubeman721 janvier 2026Elvis Presley always played roles that were never far from his own personality in his many feature films. You cannot accuse the artist, who was primarily a singer, of not having any acting talent, but the fact is that his charisma was much greater. In 'Spinout', Elvis' 22nd feature film, The King plays the role of Mike McCoy, the leader of a band with a penchant for fast cars and beautiful ladies. However, Mike has no intention of giving up his freedom, he enjoys his life as a traveling singer far too much. When he receives an offer from a wealthy businessman (Carl Betz) to perform a one-song performance for his daughter's birthday, he resolutely refuses, to the surprise of his fellow band members. "If we perform there, it's publicity. And publicity means a record deal. And a record deal means responsibility and a marriage," that's pretty much Mike's logic. Mike manages to convince his colleagues that it is a bad idea, and they also have another obligation that day in the form of a concert. But the car magnate, Howard Foxhugh (with a name like that, you wouldn't expect to be a car mechanic), has set his sights on this birthday present for his sweet daughter. He uses his power and money to cancel the performance, leaving Mike, female drummer Les (Deborah Walley), Larry (Jimmy Hawkins) and Curly (Jack Mullaney) with no choice but to do the performance anyway. Mike is very shocked when it turns out that the 'child' they have to play a song for is the attractive Cynthia (Shelley Fabares), with whom he had a flirty race at the beginning of the film, which ended in a wet suit. For Mike, that is. Cynthia turns out to be just as much of a go-getter as her father, because she is convinced that she is going to marry Mike. But my father would rather have Mike participate in a car race in his car, because that can earn him money. Meanwhile, Mike also has the full attention of best-selling author Diana St. Clair (Diane McBain), who is writing a book about the ideal American man, for which she is conducting research. You can guess who that dream image represents. And also guess what the 'price' is for this title; right, a marriage to the writer. And how jealous Les is when Mike gets all that female attention! Is there something more to that? You already understand: 'Spinout' is predictable from start to finish. Still, the film is entertaining: the pace is smooth and the screenplay is well put together, with a successful joke here and there (although the scenes with the two sidekicks Larry and Curly are quite cringeworthy). The actors know exactly what kind of film they are in and certainly make the best of it. An Elvis film wouldn't be an Elvis film if it didn't have music and this one has a nice soundtrack, including “Smorgasbord”, “Stop Look and Listen” and “I'll be back”. Elvis made his acting debut in 'Love Me Tender' (1956), 'Spinout' was made ten years later, the year his popularity was near its peak. However, 1966 was not a successful year in the field of film, although Elvis was the tenth highest paid actor at the time. In any case, 'Spinout' is the best film The King worked on in 1966: 'Paradise, Hawaiian Style' is seen by almost all Elvis fans as his worst work, and 'Frankie and Johnny' is not memorable either. But 'Spinout' offers about an hour and a half of simple, innocent and light-hearted entertainment. One for Elvis fans to put high on their to-see list, but even if you are not necessarily charmed by the best man, this film is still worth watching.
