Horribilis
Réalisé par James GunnL'homme d'affaires Grant Grant est un des citoyens les plus fortunés de la paisible bourgade de Wheelsy, mais son luxueux train de vie et son opulente résidence ne suffisent pas à compenser l'indifférence croissante de sa jeune et belle épouse, Starla, qu'il aime d'un amour sans retour. À part cela, tout baigne pour lui, ou plutôt tout baignait avant une certaine balade nocturne... Au cours d'une virée dans les bois, Grant et sa consolatrice d'un soir, Brenda, découvrent une masse gélatineuse d'origine extraterrestre à proximité d'un cratère creusé de fraîche date. Soudain, un puissant tentacule jaillit de la masse informe, enserrant Grant avant de lui inoculer un germe mortel... Starla constate bientôt chez son mari les symptômes d'une insidieuse et troublante métamorphose...

It is, at its heart, a goofy B-movie horror-comedy that arrives without pretensions or delusions of grandeur, and is a fun time for anyone who appreciates the blend of humour and gore. The film operates on a simple but effective premise: a malevolent alien parasite invades a small town, turning its inhabitants into grotesque, flesh-eating mutants. The resulting action is deliberately over-the-top, mixing creature feature tropes with dark humour that is distinctly James Gunn's style, and it's a style that works perfectly for this sort of project. The energy and charm of the movie are largely due to its great cast. Nathan Fillion is the standout, delivering a charismatic and natural performance as the small-town sheriff trying to maintain order. His deadpan delivery amidst the escalating absurdity is a major highlight. He's backed by Michael Rooker and Elizabeth Banks, who both deliver solid, committed performances as a couple caught in the middle of the alien infestation. Ultimately, Slither doesn't go beyond what it is: a silly little movie and a time-killer. It is a bloody, disgusting, and funny throwback to the creature features of the 1980s. For those who enjoy their horror served with a generous helping of slime and absurdity, this is a supremely entertaining and satisfying watch.
