Brewster Baker, coureur automobile, parcourt le pays de ville en ville. Il s'arrête un jour dans un village texan où sa remorque est pillée. Furieux, il finit par rattraper les voleurs : un groupe de six orphelins. Voulant dénoncer les enfants à la police, Brewster apprend que le shérif local trempe dans la combine.
