She Demons. 1958. This movie had to fill a need for those people who wanted to watch movies. This movie was very, very low-budget. There was no way to compete with the bigger-buget movies of that same year. So, smaller studios HAD to provide SOMETHING in their own little way, with what few modest resources they had. . Two men and a woman called Jerrie (played by Irish McCallah) accidentally wash up on a small island. . As I watched, I had to be patient. It was not until more than halfway through the movie when a good German character actor, Rudolph Anders, showed up. His portrayal of Nazi Col. Osler, as well as the screenplay at that point, changed the dynamics and tenor of the story. . In a wonderfully perverse way, Osler is still fond of and in love with his wife, Mona. She became horribly disfigured through an accident (we only hear about it). Her face is constantly wrapped in bandages. Osler has vowed to spend the rest of his life to make her beautiful again. But Jerrie is beautiful. Osler admits to her that he still has a great fondness for his wife, Mona, but he is also very lonely. Osler wants Jerrie's love but she rebuffs him. . Osler's bandaged wife is played by Leni Tana (her real face is never revealed; however, she has a soothing voice). This role was only one of three small ones she had in her entire career --- and she is never seen or heard from ever again. . In my opinion, the brief interludes of Osler, his wife, and Jerrie with them are touching. These effective scenes are in total contrast to the rest of this movie that had been made with pocket change. Review by Charles Ynfante.
