- cultfilmliker13 mars 2026These guys certainly love filmmaking! Especially when they’re doing it with their friends! As a massive Dr. Strangelove and 2001 fan, I loved the Kubrick part. It’s perfect that the thesis of this film is exactly how they filmed Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie “We’re faking the last piece. ” I’m glad Owen was the voice of reason bc it really felt like they forgot they even had a mole for a while A tough task to nail the final act! It could have been better imo but a valiant attempt to criticize our government / special ops +.5 star bc I love pessimistic endings
- Doc Worm23 février 2026Director Matt Johnson once said that 'access' is what makes documentaries feel special. This is one thing he has employed that translated terrifically well to his films and specifically here in Operation Avalanche. Some unique filming techniques take you back to 1967 in quite the convincing manner. Specifically speaking- the scenes famously shot guerilla style at NASA's Johnson space center. It is however, tonally uneven. Johnson's wacky approach to his character is at odds with the films attempt to present its topic in a serious manner. This proves to me nothing more than a mild distraction from its otherwise surprisingly excellent storytelling. Third act was intense!
