- SpikyCactus16 août 2026Top badass moment? The story is a cross between a male fantasy and an unrealistic portrait of eco-activism – you can’t say that about many films. A developer wants to build a huge skyscraper in what I think is a country park of some sort near a city, and a student environmentalist and her friends want to stop him. So far so good. This film looks nice, the lead actors are top draw eye candy and the ‘love-making’ scenes are an object example of how to film them from as many angles as possible without showing the ‘naughty bits’. But that’s where the good points end. I hated both of the main characters. I mean really hated them. Him for his smooth, money no object playboy worldview and self-importance; her for the way she totally undermines and contradicts her own beliefs for him. I think I hated her more, as I really wanted to like her. She remined me of exactly the sort of person who ‘goes vegan’ for a short period but then gives up because “I miss the taste of cheese”, or something equally as flippant. She was just a silly little girl; she'll be on her own once she loses her looks. The guy himself hardly ever appears to do any work either yet seems to have an almost James Bond ability to do things, paint, fly a helicopter, and (presumably) run a large building development company. This is also a classic coat-hanger film. In other words, the whole thing was like a hanger for the ‘sexy bits’ and in this case the hanger itself was rubbish. The back stories of the main characters were a total waste of time, as neither went into enough detail to tell us much at all; they teased at things that might have been interesting, but then just forget about them. The developer’s father’s rant at the dinner table is kind of fun though, if weirdly out of place. The twist at the end between the father and son, if you can call it that, makes zero sense too. In fact an exploration of their relationship would probably have made a better plot for the whole film. Worst of all, the editing is totally fucked up at one point. She’s just had her (free) place at university revoked, then is planning to free some dogs from somewhere, then suddenly she’s in the developer’s bed, totally naked, with all these dogs running about. No reason is given, she’s just there. The scene should have been put in after the dogs are freed. How on earth did that make it past quality assurance? Some of the dubbing, (I watched the version on Apple that only had the dubbed English version), isn’t much better. Also, the excuse that was used for her being there was that she got so drunk that she didn’t remember what she'd been doing - the worst sort of McGuffin, up there with the numerous number of women who have run away from things in films, only to fall over and get caught. And don’t get me started on the terrible, often inappropriate rap and soft rock/pop soundtrack. But to end on a more positive point, Elya's activist, would-be boyfriend, (the one that masturbates over her photos if you're not sure who I mean), has a green lamp in his bedroom that's shaped like a cactus. :-) And I have an identical lamp in my living room that's less than 1m from me as I type this. So watching this film wasn't a total waste of time. By the end I got the really unpleasant feeling that this is exactly the sort of film President Putin would want to write to subtly promote Russia in his image, if he wrote film scripts. And why did I even buy a copy as it was released in 2023; and why is Apple (and others) selling it? Isn't that some sort of sanction-busting activity? Technically it fine, the plot’s beyond awful, the script’s barely adequate and the acting’s mostly wobbly, especially from the secondary characters. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Elya, vingt ans, est étudiante et future écologiste. Un jour, Matvey, directeur d'une entreprise de construction, se rend à son université pour discuter d'un projet d'aménagement sur le site d'un ancien parc forestier. Elya n'hésite pas à réduire son projet en miettes. Intrigué par l'assurance de la jeune fille, Matvey use de ses méthodes d'influence habituelles : il tente simplement de l'« acheter ». Mais Elya n'a pas besoin de sponsor. Surpris par son invulnérabilité, Matvey propose alors un pari à Elya : sept jours romantiques selon ses règles. Si, après cela, la jeune fille décide de partir, il refusera de construire un gratte-ciel dans le parc forestier. Elle accepte lorsque Matvey suspend définitivement les travaux de conception. Elya se prend pour l'héroïne du film Pretty Woman, mais Matvey s'avère être bien loin de la personne qu'elle imaginait.
