Morbius
- Spanktacular3 juillet 2026Notes while watching: I don't like Marvel and this is supposed to be awful, but I just finished Killers of the Flower Moon and I need to rest my brain. I would have loved this at age 9-12. You'd think he'd just get Velcro shoes. Why does he keep a glass tank of bats that he harasses with a ball? I know he needs the DNA, but he doesn't need to keep them swirling with a fan, that's just cruel. Everyone in this movie shoots first and asks questions never. Why did that boat need 8 armed guards sitting around for "science"? Oooh, two more vials and one goes missing. Setting up for a sequel, you sneaky buggers. Why does the clothing make smoke streaks? Alright, I'll admit, it looked kinda cool the first time. They made all the blood in the fight scenes black? What the hell ending was that?! And they just close out with a bunch of cuts and the cinematic horn? That damned Spartan quote... Five times they said it. Honestly, I can't tell if this is worse or better than any other PG superhero movie, but it definitely sucks.
- Zokkiie25 mars 2026This one drags more than it should. A few moments catch your attention, but most of it feels flat and forgettable. The characters don’t leave much of an impression, and the jokes rarely land. The pacing is uneven, swinging between rushed and painfully slow, and the tone never really settles. By the end, you’re just left shrugging and moving on.
- flavo4322 novembre 2025Morbius is one of those films that makes you wonder why the studio pushed so hard to expand the Spider-Man universe in this particular direction. I get the motivation—Venom worked, and I enjoyed that movie immensely—but Morbius just left me confused and disappointed. The tone wobbles between horror, superhero action, and unintentional comedy, without ever deciding what it wants to be. The plot feels oddly hollow, as if key emotional beats and explanations were left on the cutting room floor. Characters drift in and out with little development, and the attempts to set up future crossovers only muddy things further. Jared Leto clearly commits, but the script doesn’t give him much to work with beyond brooding and bloodlust. Visually, there are a few interesting moments, yet the overuse of CGI powers quickly becomes repetitive. In the end, it’s a sad example of brand exploitation without a solid story to justify its existence.
- jackmeat2 septembre 2025My quick rating - 5.6/10. Another on the list to check out. Click the poster below to grab a UHD copy of it as well for yourself. I steered away from the negative press on this one and am somewhat glad I did. Not like I wouldn't have seen it anyway, but it surely wasn't as bad as people said. I am fairly sure the "in" thing to do is bash Jared Leto, which is where it comes from. Anyway, I will admit that I did not read this comic before, so no comparing, but I had an idea of what it was about. Basically, Leto plays someone afflicted with a rare blood disease who spends his life growing up to become a doctor in hopes of developing a cure for himself and his lifelong friend with this condition. The lead-up to all of this is well done and gives you enough of a reason to keep checking it out. To be honest, this movie is actually quite good until the last 15 minutes or so, and then it goes quickly downhill. Before I get to the negative, though, as our good doctor intends to come up with this vaccine, he accidentally turns himself into a form of a vampire. But with the debilitating disease cured comes an unexpected side effect. The need for blood and seemingly human works best. As he attempts to find a cure for his new state, his buddy decides to pay little attention to the warnings of Morbius and believes the risks outweigh the benefits and "infects" himself as well. The built-in bad guy necessary for a superhero movie played out fine, and Matt Smith does a nice job here (even with the most generic name going for him), far more embracing his powers while Morbius tries to get rid of them. There are some good scenes that do stick out early on due to some creative camerawork and storyline aspects, but this all goes down the toilet towards the end. All of the good development and good vs evil that is going on then just turns into an all-out effects show that loses all sensibility leading up to its finish. Too bad since they clearly have some big plans going forward with his character, and I had no issues with how Leto played it. This is evident with the billing of Michael Keaton in the cast, since he is only part of the credits scenes. I won't spoil them since they are quite intriguing in relation to everything that is going on in the Marvel Universe right now. Blade and Morbius roaming around in phase 4? Seems inevitable.
- Kevin Ward14 juillet 2025It’s a little weird that my 2 1/2 star rating kind of feels like a hot take. I don’t quite understand everyone absolutely shitting on this film. Jared Leto I thought was very good as Dr. Michael Morbius and I would say the opening 45 minutes or so was totally solid. There were even a couple decent horror movie moments. Plus I really loved that they used 100% practical effects in this. Well, I mean there’s some CGI, but it looks really, really good and it’s only used very, very sparingly. 😬😬. Admittedly, a lot of the dialogue is terrible. There’s very low stakes. The mid and post-credit scenes terrible. Still, I actually enjoyed the bulk of this movie much more than I thought I would. Saw with my oldest son and his 3 best friends. They also thought it was much better than expected. I’m not gonna recommend it for everyone, but if you were interested in watching it before then you might still get some enjoyment out of it.
