Où regarder Mission : Impossible
- Kevin Ward7 juillet 2025I checked out of the Mission: Impossible films after part 3 and haven’t looked back despite the praise for McQuarrie’s more recent entries. But with part 7 on the horizon and my kids showing interest in that, we’re going to probably tackle the entire franchise. I had completely forgotten that Brian De Palma directed this one. In fact, the only thing I remembered about this film was that iconic scene. De Palma’s direction is so good. I love me some dutch angles, though, so I might be a bit biased there. Some of the action went a little over-the-top—namely the helicopter in the tunnel sequence—but hey, what else would you want from a summer blockbuster. The ridiculous heel-turns and Scooby-Doo masks are here, but (from what I remember) not as egregious as what turned me off the franchise in parts 2 and 3. (We’ll see if that thinking holds up when we revisit those. I remember even less about those films than I did this one). Ultimately, this one serves as really great spy thriller and I am looking forward to finally seeing 4, 5, 6 and eventually 7.
- Jay Marie Bailey6 juin 2026I remember watching this at the time and thinking this was the best movie ever, guess it was in its day very spectacular. Having just rewatched it I was OK with it until it gets to the helicopter in the tunnel when it just gets inexplicably silly (dimensions of the tunnel vs dimensions of helicopter blades amongst other). It was entertaining all the same, probably the weakest of the franchise in my opinion and a typical 90s action movie
- Zokkiie18 août 2025It is a slick, stylish spy thriller that still holds up today. Tom Cruise’s as Ethan Hunt is full of tension, clever twists, and that iconic vault scene that’s just as gripping now as it was back then. The plot gets a little tangled at times, but the suspense and action more than make up for it. A sharp, entertaining start to the franchise.
- Daniel Taylor28 décembre 2025Rewatching this is such a reminder of how cool this movie still is. Tom Cruise in peak 90’s heartthrob mode, slick hair, intense stare, running like his life depends on it. Iconic. It’s also hilarious in the best way seeing the 90’s tech. That moment where he literally types “Internet Access” like it’s a magic spell never fails to make me smile. A very different time, but it adds to the charm rather than taking away from it.
- James Saenz29 avril 2025the split diopter shots in this film go fucking crazy man i totally get it now. this is just a conventional spy thriller as far as narrative beats and characterizations go, but everything is elevated by the craftsmanship on display; from de palma’s direction to burum’s cinematography to cruise’s performance to the production design, everything is of such a high caliber that it elevates the story.
