    Perfect movie!

I remember when this movie was first announced. I was excited. I was hoping for something akin to Army Of Darkness. It was a Universal film produced by Dino De Larentiis starring Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo and Tia Carerre. Then I saw the film and was immediately disappointed. Years later I decided to go back and try again to see if I liked it any better. Not really. But now I understand why - it’s the 90’s aesthetic. In Army Of Darkness, Ash was from our time so it made sense for him to behave like a modern man. The rest of characters behaved like people from their era…for the most part. The old Arnold Conan movies were cheesy and fun but didn’t feel like modern characters shoehorned into a sword and sorcery world. In this movie, we see Kull marry a sorceress who then kinda kills him but doesn’t and so then he tries to regain his kingdom. It could have been fun, even in the way the first two acts of The Scorpion King were fun. Instead, it tried too hard to be fun that it missed the mark repeatedly. But it still has a quality about it that made it an odd entry in the world of sword and sorcery. I could easily watch it again if it came on television. I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch it again, though.
