Le portrait du syndicaliste Jimmy Hoffa. Ses relations avec la mafia et le pouvoir.
Où regarder Hoffa
- Jeremiah-3 jGave myself a goal of watching all of Jack's 90's movies since I noticed I already had half of them done. I didn't even know this movie existed before seeing a friend review it here on LB bit ago. I was facinated and frusterated by it. Devito's has a big disco of directing credits but as a feature film director, I'm counting 6, from late 80s till early 00s. And on this one in particular I found his stylistic flourishes delightful. You could feel the creativity with camerwork, lighting, composition, transitions, and all that goes into it. Big kudos. And even though the soundstage scenes stick out like a sore thumb they never felt like they didn't belong. The scope and scale of the real locations, the amount of extras, the dedication to the time periods authenticity is was all top notch. My qualms, and probably most peoples, with the movie is how the movie tells its story. It's giving you a window into the moments of these characters lives but never inviting you into the room and take it all in emotionally and whatnot. Between its non-explainations of exacly what is going on, or who people are, the time jumps, and the non-linear story telling, I found myself confused with just what was going on a lot of the time. Although by the end it does coalesce some and I felt like I mostly got it. Not entirely though. As a complete noob to the Jimmy Hoffa story some more basics would have been appreciated. I watched one 8 min jimmy hoffa youtube vid and got more out of the basics than this flick. Jack is incredible in this. Transformative, I'm not sure he had makeup appliances or not, but some how he looks physically different, and if its not appliances its how he holds himself as Jimmy Hoffa. Its awesome to say the least. The nasially speech wears a bit thin but I love jack doing "not jack" all while "jack" still is an undercurrent in his performance. Not sure that makes sense. But if it does to you, I eat that up big time. It's getting something new all while having something you love at the same time. Like I said. Facinating and frusterating. I wanted to know these characters as people, emotionally, and they don't give that to you really. They tease it but it never really connects on the personal level that you want. Makes me interested in revisiting The Irishman cause I can't remember a thing about it and having now seen this it honestly feels more interesting to me knowing their stories corssover.
