- Doc Worm23 mars 2026Immaculate in its vibes and effective as an allegory, Ginger Snaps is a surprisingly excellent Canadian indie horror. While its incredibly corny for the most part, its ultimately elevated by decent camera work, a weighty score, committed performances and some tremendous DIY special effects. Even with all of the roses I can give this one, I have one major gripe with it......why were they playing field hockey with a mutilated dog obviously in the middle of the field? There is no way they didn't know it wasn't there. Ridiculous!
- Cubane29 octobre 2025Decent background noise for a Halloween party, maybe a drinking game, but paying attention not encouraged. The sole use of practical effects helps this film age much more gracefully than its peers; however they still slowly devolve from cute syrupy gore piles to a propmaster's rubber fever dream by the end. The acting and plot are stilted, forced, and wooden, to the surprise of no one. But isn't the gore really what we're here for anyway?
- Jeremey19 octobre 2025INT. DIGITAL VOID – NIGHT A lone viewer (YOU) sits in the glow of a screen. The hour is late. The runtime is long. The dialogue is… trying. YOU (muttering): I was promised werewolves, but all I got was menstruation and metaphor. NARRATOR (overly serious, unnecessarily poetic): They talk, and they talk, and they talk — as if a thesaurus exploded inside a high school goth club. Every sentence drips with the desperate need to mean something, and none of them do. GINGER (on screen): We are nothing, Bridget. Nothing but blood and fur and the inevitable decay of suburban youth. YOU (rolling eyes): Cool. But maybe shut up and, you know… transform already? NARRATOR: At minute sixty-one, the mind begins to fray. Dialogue once merely clunky now assaults the senses like a blender filled with angst. Metaphors don’t land — they crash. Subtext isn’t sub — it’s a brick with MESSAGE written on it, lobbed at your forehead. BRIDGET (on screen): Do you think dying will make us different, or just less disappointing? YOU: I think finishing this movie will make me different. NARRATOR: And yet, you press on. Because somewhere under this mountain of moody word-vomit is a werewolf. Somewhere beneath the pretension is a story worth telling. And if you survive the final thirty minutes, maybe — just maybe — you’ll find it. FADE OUT.
