- Stairwaytothestars-3 jBENEDETTA is based on a true story, that needed to be handled with care, like a finely-tuned violin. The story should have been directed with sincerity and sensitivity for a compelling and provocative experience with a director such as Todd Haynes or Sebastian Lelio. But instead, I got Paul Verhoeven with his trashy interpretation of female sexuality. I was looking for passion, but that too is missing. Even the cover of this movie is more sensual than this mess with two nuns that relate to one another like children. If I want caricatures, I will watch an animation. Verhoeven not only dropped the ball, but he dropped the crucifix, and the Virgin Mary is still trying to remove the stench off of her.
