Where Dr. Weir’s descent into the abyss felt like an invocation of ancient, unknowable malevolence, Annabelle’s haunted antics amount to perfunctory jump scares and perfumed satanism—an anemic simulacrum of horror wrapped in baroque doll imagery and narrative inertia.

The film squanders the myth of the Annabelle doll, cleverly established in The Conjuring, reducing it to predictable jump scares and simplistic plot devices. There are brief flashes of genuine terror, but they are far too few to make the audience feel real fear. Overall, it functions as a conventional, formulaic horror aimed solely at genre fans - a movie relying on familiar tricks, without any original ideas or deeper atmosphere.

- LivewireAdmin3 avril 2025So this is the first of The Conjuring universe films that I hadn't seen. Not sure why I skipped this one after thinking The Conjuring was so scary, it must have been the trailer that made me disinterested? Anyway, I enjoyed this! Pretty creepy however I would say it's a step down from Conjuring in terms of overall horror. I think what I find scary/interesting about some of the other films is that it's a whole family being haunted by a spirit, this featured just a married couple and then eventually a newborn. Oh and also the fact that there are no Ed and Lorraine Warren in this one, they definitely add a lot to the emotional weight of a film. There were definitely a handful of pretty scary moments scattered throughout but nothing that really sticks with you. I did think it was interesting how the spirit that ends up possessing Annabelle was written to be a Charles Manson type follower that invades the home of our main characters. Definitely a choice that works for the time period of the movie. Like I said, it's a step down from The Conjuring but this is still way better than a lot of other horror out there. (Wan should not let anyone else direct movies in this series) Annabelle: - 3 out of 5 - one of the creepiest looking dolls ever but I myself am not really scared of dolls - the demon-like creature that is linked with Annabelle was definitely a creepy design

- Zokkiie10 octobre 2025It is kind of crap, honestly. It leans on The Conjuring’s name but delivers nothing interesting. The story’s flat, the characters are dull, and it never builds any real tension. Just a lifeless spin-off with no real bite.
- ርልዪረ7 octobre 2025Personally, I don't find this movie scary at all. It was generic, the storyline was predictable and overall forgettable. I'd like to point out few things that bothered me greatly. Spoilers. -The wife, after getting stabbed, looked high rather than in pain. I don't know if it was because of the blood loss that she looked high, but she didn't even break a sweat. At the very least she should be hyperventilating. She looked like she was posing. -After the wife gave birth, and the husband came over, how did he not notice her tummy was flat? He's a doctor, for God sake. -Some people pointed out that in the timeline, which was in 1960 I believe, racism was still strong. (Though this did not bother me at all.) -When the wife entered the room, where she kept the doll, to look for her baby. How the hell did she not notice that the doll was missing? That thing is huge. The largest doll in the room. First glance and you would probably notice the doll first rather than all the little once. -The wife's acting. When loosing her baby, she didn't even cry. If I loose my baby, I would go hysteric. I would scream and shout, cry until snot comes out of my nose. -When loosing your baby to a demon, you would be desperate and because of that, you'd fight back. It's a mother's instinct. The wife was just weak. -When her friend committed suicide, goodness gracious. Lady, is that all you got? I would've gone mad at that point. My only friend committed suicide in front of me, where are the tears? Should've been a waterfall. -After they got back their baby, did they forgot about the lady, who just committed suicide? I would've quickly called the ambulance. Poor lady, her body was just laying on the cold concrete floor. -I may be wrong with this one but shouldn't the evidence stay with the police? Or detective? Can you even ask them to keep the evidence with you? Those are just the a few. It was hard to try and remember the story because of how boring and slow it was. Overall, I'd give this movie a 3/10. The cinematography was excellent, though it was shunned by the lack of atmosphere and insanely slow plots. The doll is creepy and it gives the vibe as well. I think the doll was the scariest thing in the whole movie, not the demon, nothing else. Would I recommend it? No. You better off just watching both of the conjuring series. They're much better.
