The heart and charm that made the original films sparkle never quite make the jump to TV, replaced instead by a brisker, lighter tone that sometimes feels more Saturday-morning than cinematic. That said, there’s fun to be had. Ancient artefacts misbehave, portals open in the wrong places, and history’s weirdest mysteries come to life — all handled with a wink and a smirk. The ensemble cast gives it energy, even if none of them quite manage to fill Noah Wyle’s scholarly shoes. The show’s tone is comfortable, almost cosy; it’s fantasy that asks nothing of you except to switch your brain off and enjoy the ride. It’s not bad — just forgettable. I watched it nearly a decade ago and remember little beyond the pleasant sense that it was… fine.
