Nostalgia is ruining a lot of what used to be great. Instead of creating something new and better, studios keep recycling old ideas. At the same time, a lot of modern acting lacks originality and uniqueness, so it makes sense they keep leaning on the old cast to carry everything. This reboot just wasn’t necessary. Removing characters like Kelso, Todd, Perry, and others, along with toning down the humor to fit a more “sensitive” modern audience, really hurt it. The show ends up feeling flat and stripped of what made the original special. The pacing is also rough. Relationships feel rushed just to force something interesting, like the Amara and UK boy storyline, which didn’t land at all. The appearances from the original cast and the flashbacks were nice, but honestly, they just highlight how much better the original was. And what happened to JD’s kid? Are we just ignoring that and other storylines completely? The original show had meaningful moments that hit hard, like Ben’s death or the elderly patient who died due to a preventable mistake. This reboot doesn’t come close to that level of emotional impact. Nothing really sticks. Overall, it’s an okay watch at best, mostly carried by nostalgia. The old cast still shines, but the new characters are just not interesting, which makes the whole experience feel dull.

Other shows looking to do a revival should take note. The right mix of nostalgia, likable new characters, and keeping the same tone as the original but advancing the story. I'm glad Scrubs is back, if you were a fan of the original you'll probably love the 2026 version.
