This show bothers me. The conspiracies that are supposed to typify the reality this show grounds in, they sound an awful lot like the paranoid delusions of dumb people. Like the lead character seeing patterns in crossword puzzles and his colleagues finding that normal or even commendable. It doesn’t help that the tasks of this intelligence agency seem all over the shop, like the writers had only the faintest idea of that world and even less interest in it. It’s like the writers left a lot of first draft placeholders and nobody bothered to fix them. The acting is stellar, but then the characters are taking someone seriously who interprets the number 13 as deeply meaningful. Cognitive dissonance does not begin to describe it. I’m waiting for the intelligent series I was promised this would be to materialise, but it isn't happening. My strong repulsion to elements of this show are probably informed by the QAnon cult, and that QAnon may have been helped by shitty tv writing like this lowering people’s thresholds.
