After undergoing Benimaru Shinmon's hellish training, Shinra Kusakabe and Arthur Boyle return to Special Fire Force Company 8. However, there is no time to rest: Captain Akitaru Oubi is arrested by the military police under the influence of the White-Clad cult. Moreover, the White-Clad member Haumea—one of the eight pillars who possess Adolla Burst—has successfully brainwashed the leadership of the Tokyo Empire and infiltrated the heart of the firefighting organization. As a result, Shinra and the rest of the Company 8 squad are branded as rebels after they launch a rescue mission to save their captain and ultimately liberate Tokyo.

This season was incredible. It started off with a plot twist that changes the situation for the 8th in a way I was not expecting at all, and from there it just gets crazier. Having the Infernals, Pyrokinetic powers, and other such abilities and tech all be possible because of the Earths connection to Adolla since the great Cataclysm is insane, but such a fun idea. And thanks to that revelation it makes all the power ups throughout the show make so much more sense. Shinra's ability to move faster than the speed of light, Tamaki's lucky lure, Arthur's strength depending on his imagination in the moment, it makes all the nonsensical non-pyro abilities so much more fun. How they handled Tamaki in episode 20 felt like a much needed rant session towards Karen's and the like that try to censor sexual things that they specifically don't like as if they were the devil incarnate, and as uncomfortable as I feel sometimes with too much sexual events/topics in shows like these I agree 100% with Tamaki. Well maybe 50/50 as we should keep some balance and not go to far either way, but yeah. Have to say though the 4th wall break with that mom and kid where the kid solidified his importance to the story so he could continue to exist whilst his mother was just erased from existence was pretty traumatizing and felt like a plot thread that should've been a clue to something or had some kind of follow up, but didn't. Vulcan's little apprentice finally showed up again almost halfway through the season and with little to no explanation as to where he's been since his last appearance(which is a little annoying to me), but I'm just glad he's okay. The Old nun, Sumire, was terrifying when she was first revealed as having an Adolla Burst The time skip for Shinra felt a bit odd like they were just trying to speed things up to the end. Having the world before the supposed first Cataclysm be literally IRL footage and Shinra being unable to explain the difference was fascinating. Episode 23 is possibly the most depressing for almost any show I've ever seen, and the way they brought it all back, including previously dead characters, allst while tying it all to the world of Soul Eater in such an unusual and unconventional way was phenomenal. In conclusion Fire Force is a brilliantly fun anime in its own right that just so happens to be a prequel to a classic anime from my childhood, leaving me hungry to re-watch Soul Eater once more. Still the ending leaves me with some possible plot hole connected questions. Like 'isn't Excalibur supposed to be over a thousand years old, not 25?' and 'did Shinra create death thousands of years ago like he should've been around for, or did he just create him mid conversation after recreating society over thousands of years?'. Hopefully whoever wrote this story has or will answer these questions.
