I first saw this series on TV back when it aired and what made it instantly memorable were the sharp, funny parodies of well known and not so known ;-) Dutch personalities. It had that uniquely Dutch mix of satire, silliness and “we all know exactly who they’re mocking” humor, the kind of comedy that only works when you grew up with the same public figures. Watching it again now, the references are a time capsule of the Netherlands in that era. Some jokes are dated, sure, but that actually makes it even more fun: it’s like flipping through an old magazine and suddenly remembering politicians, TV hosts and celebrities you hadn’t thought about in years. The show still works because it had personality. It didn’t try to be polished or international, it leaned fully into Dutch culture, Dutch humor and Dutch absurdity. And that’s exactly why it holds up. It’s a reminder of a time when TV wasn’t afraid to poke fun at everyone in the spotlight and when parody was still clever instead of mean spirited. A great rewatch, especially if you remember the era it came from.
