⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Cruel Intentions (Series) – New Faces, Old Games The Cruel Intentions series feels very much like the next chapter of the films, even if it never stamps that on the screen. Sean Patrick Thomas returning in a key role makes it hard to see this as anything other than a continuation, and the rest of the cast — especially Sarah Catherine Hook — fits right into the trademark tone of polished charm and quiet scheming. The show doesn’t break new ground, but it doesn’t need to. It leans into the familiar patterns that defined the franchise: careful manipulation, shifting alliances, people testing how far they can push each other, and the occasional moment where someone offers themselves up as the prize in a social power play. It’s the same manoeuvring, just updated for modern sensibilities, and the repetition feels intentional — like history cycling through a new generation. For long-time fans, the best early surprise is the orchestral arrangement of “Bittersweet Symphony” in the first episode. It’s a deliberate and well-executed nod to the original film, the kind of moment that instantly tells you the creators understand where this series came from. What’s impressive is that the show manages to exist in today’s cleaner, more cautious TV climate while still capturing the tone that made Cruel Intentions what it is. It’s stylish, dramatic, a little dangerous around the edges, and consistently entertaining. 🍷 Pairing: A deep red wine — smooth, bold, and just sharp enough to remind you that every toast in this world comes with an ulterior motive.
