The building feels alive, whispering through its ornate hallways, and its owners — played with eerie restraint — might be puppets or puppet-masters. The series trades jump-scares for temptation, leaning into sins of pride, greed, and infidelity rather than blood and gore. Helena Mattsson is excellent as the quietly calculating assistant who seems to know far more than she should, and her arc from bystander to manipulator is one of the show’s highlights. Our supposedly wholesome newcomers start pure — Midwest smiles and bright futures — but by mid-season, they’re knee-deep in ambition and deceit. Whether they’re seduced by the building or simply revealing what was always inside them is the kind of moral blur that makes the story tick.
