As a second prequel to the Yellowstone series, 1923 does not fail to deliver on what promises to be yet another epic tale. Set in the 1920s, we see another Dutton generation fighting tooth and nail to keep control of their land and livelihood against all odds. The scenery gives such an engrossing and vivid view of the time period, and the cast does such a great job in bringing the viewer into the characters' lives. Whether you are a fan of the Duttons or not this show is sure to please!

1923 (2022–2025) is a masterfully atmospheric but deeply polarizing entry in the Yellowstone saga. While the first season set an incredibly high bar for "prestige Western" television, many viewers and critics share your sentiment that the second season struggled to maintain that same magic. Season 1: The "Hook" The debut season was a cinematic triumph, anchored by the legendary gravitas of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. The Scope: It successfully balanced three disparate, high-stakes worlds: the brutal ranching wars of Montana, the trauma of an indigenous boarding school, and a sweeping, romantic adventure across Africa. The Standouts: Spencer and Alex’s journey was arguably the show's pulse, offering a level of high-adventure romance rarely seen in modern TV. Season 2: The "Rushed" Reality second season feeling "rushed as all get out"The season faced a shorter 7-episode run (compared to the first season's 8) and was tasked with wrapping up massive narrative threads. Pacing Issues: Critics pointed out that the first five episodes often felt like "slow-moving table setting," only to have the final two episodes move at breakneck speed to force a conclusion. The "Travel" Fatigue: Much of the fan frustration stemmed from Spencer’s agonizingly slow return to Montana, which some felt turned the season into a repetitive series of "side quests" that delayed the central conflict at the ranch. Tone & Content: The second season leaned heavily into "dark and depressing" themes, with some reviewers finding the graphic violence and sexual sadism of villain Donald Whitfield to be excessive and "torture-porn" adjacent compared to the first season’s more balanced tone. The Verdict Despite the pacing flaws, the two-hour series finale, “A Dream and a Memory,” managed to deliver a visually stunning and emotional payoff for the Dutton family legacy, even if it left some viewers feeling the journey there was unnecessarily punishing.

Such a great show. Great story telling and suspense. I’m just a bit disappointed about how the John Dutton timeline was handled. For a series that's so rooted in legacy and family, the lack of clarity around how we get from 1923 to John Dutton III (Kevin Costner) in Yellowstone felt like a missed opportunity.

Sheridan's best work. Just far enough back that the propaganda is not obvious, and fully engrossing. Honestly kind of an absolute masterpiece in storytelling, that really captures the culture of an entire way of being - the one that got us here. Whether or not that's actually true is irrelevant, the feeling is incredibly true, and it's told through a tragic love story of the wild at heart that really hits. It's a movie told as a show, and while there's an element of soap opera to it the acting and characters are so real that it simply transcends. 1923 is a tall tale of the west. And like all tall tales it's reality lies in what it makes you feel. There's little else more real than this one.

Finished the 2nd season. It was a bit slow at first but it comes together so nice. The thing is, you have to realize the time frame. It was hard and treacherous still at times to make things happen in the 20’s. The last few episodes I just had to watch it through fr. Couldn’t stop. (Spoiler a bit) Like wow the luck sometimes, then like oh yeah the luck back then wasn’t that great. Finale was the episode most worth watching then bleh. It’s the end. Not really a spoiler but made ya think so

Production values are good. But the series is basically: everything can and will go wrong. It is utterly depressing the entire way through, written by someone with a vendetta. Yellowstone was good, more or less. This show is for sadistic/masochistic individuals.

Enjoyed this series although in my opinion not as good as 1883 but follows a similar format. Looking forward to watching the next Yellowstone spin off which I believe will be 1944 following the trials & tribulations of Spencer. Think once all spin offs have been made I'll binge the whole Yellowstone timeline

The second season was slow, and I mean SLOW. The finale was a bit of a surprise, especially after all the pokey traveling scenes. Spoiler: You could have watched me travel as far as two of the characters did on foot 24/7 through a GoPro and thought I was keeping a better pace than this show.

"1883" is better, but this is still is a solid TV show. Some forced drama, a sub-plot that doesn't have anything to do with the main story, but overall the characters and the story are worth it.

Embarrassing TV show and it is inexplicable that this garbage is broadcast at all. This show is genuinely terrible. I loved Yellowstone and 1883. Somehow made it through season 1 of 1923.
