Cuando todos los alumnos de una misma clase, salvo uno, desaparecen misteriosamente la misma noche y exactamente a la misma hora, la pequeña ciudad donde viven se pregunta quién o qué está detrás de su desaparición.
- rg9400hace 5 dI think a lot of people will go into this movie with sky-high expectations that will inevitably hurt their experience. Creggar's first movie worked because it flew under the radar. It was so unexpected, and no one was trying to put that movie under a microscope. With the hype and glowing reviews, it's clear Weapons has not had the same treatment. Make no mistake, Weapons is not a profound symbolic allegory filled with Big Ideas. Yes, the title and concept allude to gun violence in America, but that is not the central goal. Initially, based on the reviews, I also went into the movie thinking it would be building out these types of themes and felt cheated that it didn't really delve into them. However, after taking a step back and just appreciating the movie for what it was trying to do, I changed my tune. Weapons is trying to be entertaining. It accomplishes that in spades. The humor from Barbarian is in full effect here. Characters react in a way that feels authentic to the situation without it feeling as dumb as a lot of the recent horror-comedies. This is a horror movie first, but it's a horror movie unafraid to embrace silliness without undercutting its tension. The cinematography and pounding score help build that tension, and there are just as many effective jump scares and horror imagery moments as there are comedic jokes. The structure of the movie is unique for horror, jumping between perspectives and giving each character a unique tone. The movie expertly jumps between alienation, grief, frustration, silliness, and helplessness depending on the character, with all of the actors performing well, with a standout performance from child actor Cary Christopher. It's really just an excellent time. I also love just how effortlessly confident the horror imagery feels throughout. Creggar knows exactly what he wants to do and is able to execute it without a care in the world about the Discourse it may spawn. I have noticed that most horror movies tend to be polarizing because so many people go into them with preconceived notions. Expectations kill these movies, especially when they have hype around them. There are so many subgroups of horror fans who want something very specific out of their movies. Some people go in expecting a haunted-house-style fright fest and get disappointed in more atmospheric movies or elevated horror. On the other hand, this trend of labelling certain movies as elevated horror creates this notion that for a horror movie to be great, it needs to be much deeper, creating disappointment when it isn't. This movie is not perfect, but it's fun. It isn't a deep elevated horror movie, and that's fine. It's getting glowing reviews because people just really enjoyed it. Leave your expectations at the door and just watch the movie. Let Creggar take you on one hell of a ride.
- Liamhace 5 dBarbarian was one of my favourite horror movies of 2022 so I was looking forward to watching this. Unfortunately, the hype surrounding this movie seemed a little unjustified. While it isn't garbage by any means, I didn't really feel much sense of dread or terror. The young lad does a decent job and I admit that the batsh*t biddy was very entertaining but I can't rank it alongside Barbarian or even companion.
- d.mal414 de junio de 2026I don't know what's so great about this movie. There were a few jump scares, that's all. I wouldn't call it a horror. There's no story, no normal end. It looks like, "Okay, we'll add supernatural elements with no explanation as to what, why, etc., and then at the end, 'Oh, shit, I don't know how to wrap everything up fully, so just bam, bam, that's it...'"
