Not naturally a fan of the main actress of this movie historically but she was amazing in this film. And the film itself is great. It jumps right into the action. It’s claustrophobic and terrifying, and it works the mythos in in a way that constantly delights and terrifies the viewer and then it’s deeply satisfying. This is a great movie.

Little campy with some plot holes sprinkled in for needless suspense, but overall a good popcorn sci-fi thriller.

Underrated and underloved. Really good throw back to Leviathan or Deep Star Six. Much much better than the Abyss. Kristen and Vincent do a lot of heavy lifting, and as others have observed there's definitely some "we need an ahole, lets hire TJ" which works really well cause he's just so unlikeable. I disagree with the normal complaints of "We don't get any character development in this mainly real time film" - well it's 1.5h people don't change that quickly. "Everything's murky" well... yeah, you're underwater and there's a massive churn going on, and also someone understood that not showing you what's going on adds tension. At some point everyone will re-evaluate and do one of those "Why didn't I???" well, probably cause you listened to everyone else.

It's an intense, high-pressure (pun intended), thriller. You hit the ground running or well.. swimming... and learn people's back stories/personality on the go instead of the other way round. Tons of action and even the occasional sprinkle of humor from the comedy relief character.

Great way to spend 90 minutes eating dinner. Lots of action

Good movie. The visuals are great, the costume design is cool, and the pacing is pretty great too. An, you aren't left in the dark and get some closure at the end.

Underwater? Underrated. Makes you wait for the 'monsterism' but when the leviathan arrives the leviathan comes in HARD.

Sort of like a deep sea Alien movie. No introductions, little character development, predictable plot - what a waste, considering the star power of Kristen Stewart and the $65m budget.

Not so great that I could think of any meaningful compliments, not so bad that I'd ever watch it again. Of all of the movies ever made, this is certainly one of them. Terrible sci fi, ok acting, mid horror. The concept was meh. The anti corporate twist was yawn.

Way better than it has any right to be. Absolutely enjoy the shit out of this!

Simple, but somewhat blurry and difficult to follow visually. A sad case of misunderstanding the basic science of materials, biology, and deep-sea pressure physics, which makes this movie completely unwatchable. If I didn't know any better, the movie's props and design were originally intended for a space horror; however, the production quickly changed the plot to take place 36,000 feet underwater. Thus, leaving this movie a complete implosion.

Caught this one on streaming and yeah, it fits right into that DeepStar Six, Leviathan, The Abyss corner of the shelf. You’ve got a deep sea drilling station, a sudden catastrophe and a crew trying to survive while something ancient and very not-friendly starts picking them off. It wastes no time, within five minutes, the place is flooding, cracking, and falling apart. Kristen Stewart actually works here, stripped down, buzzcut and no-nonsense. The whole thing plays out in near real-time, which adds to the tension. The creature design leans Lovecraftian, especially toward the end and while the murky cinematography can be frustrating, it also adds to the claustrophobia. You’re not supposed to see everything clearly, it’s the deep ocean, after all. The suits are bulky, the pressure’s crushing and the silence between jump scares is where the real dread lives. It’s not original, but it’s tight. Could’ve used more character work, sure, but for a 90-minute survival horror flick? It delivers. Definitely better than it got credit for and if you’re into underwater terror with a side of cosmic horror, it’s worth the dive.

I like it. It feels like we’re actually underwater.
