This should have been McQueen’s last film not Hunter. Sad and tough. Tom Horn the story is Steve McQueen’s in many ways. To see the actor withering away and give his finest performance contemplating death is heartbreaking. I’m tearing up like Slim Pickens did. Speaking of Slim, did you see the stunt elderly old and obese dude did jumping off that horse? Sam Horn is a fine Western and when you add guys like Elisha Cook and Geoffrey Lewis it’s only better.

A decent Western, beautiful to look at, but unfortunately we don’t really get to know any of the characters.

“Tom Horn” is a character-driven exploration of a man caught in the fading wildness of the West, struggling to find his place in an ordered world. Steve McQueen’s understated, deliberate performance anchors the film, lending it depth and authenticity. While there are moments of action, the movie's heart lies in its storytelling, which takes precedence over spectacle.
