A goofy sports comedy that transcends into a highly quotable classic (that's somehow endearing). Fun cast. Southern setting sets the vibe.

It's a campy comedy that delivers just enough humor and story for viewers to invest into its plot. Basically, it's fun "peepee poop" to watch.

Not as good as Happy Gilmore, but for me it’s better than Billy Madison.

I just watched The Waterboy and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. This movie is one of Adam Sandler’s funniest and most memorable comedies. It takes a simple underdog story and turns it into something outrageous, heartfelt, and endlessly entertaining. From the very first scene, it pulls you into the quirky world of Bobby Boucher, a shy and socially awkward waterboy who discovers that he has an unbelievable talent for tackling on the football field. The mix of absurd humor, over the top characters, and surprisingly touching moments makes this movie stand out as a true comedy classic. Adam Sandler shines as Bobby. His performance is equal parts hilarious and lovable. He gives the character a unique voice, mannerisms, and innocence that make him instantly unforgettable. While Bobby is constantly teased and underestimated, you cannot help but root for him because he has such a kind heart. Sandler’s ability to balance silliness with sincerity is what makes this role one of his very best. You laugh at his antics, but you also genuinely care about him and want to see him succeed. The supporting cast is fantastic. Kathy Bates as Bobby’s overprotective mother steals every scene she is in. Her mix of strictness, eccentric beliefs, and eventual growth as a character adds so much depth to the story. Henry Winkler is hilarious as Coach Klein, a man who is just as lost as Bobby but finds his own confidence as the story progresses. Even smaller characters like Bobby’s teammates and the outrageous opponents add to the film’s charm, creating a world that is both ridiculous and full of personality. The humor in this movie is wild, and it never holds back. There are plenty of over the top football moments, ridiculous one liners, and physical comedy that keep the laughs coming. The jokes are silly, sometimes crude, but always delivered with the kind of energy that makes them work. What makes the comedy special is that it is tied to Bobby’s journey. The laughs never feel empty because they are connected to the story of an underdog proving himself. The football scenes are surprisingly fun and exciting. They may not be realistic, but that is exactly what makes them so entertaining. Watching Bobby unleash his tackling skills is both hilarious and satisfying. The way the film builds up to the big games keeps the momentum going, and by the time the championship arrives, you are completely invested in the outcome. The sports aspect gives the comedy structure, turning it into a story that feels bigger than just a series of jokes. What makes The Waterboy more than just a comedy is its heart. Beneath the ridiculous moments and outrageous characters, there is a real story about confidence, acceptance, and love. Bobby’s journey from being bullied and underestimated to finding his voice and proving his worth is inspiring. His relationship with his mother adds emotional depth, showing how love can be both protective and limiting. By the end, the growth of both Bobby and his mom makes the story feel complete and satisfying. The soundtrack and Southern setting add to the film’s unique personality. The music gives it energy, and the small town atmosphere makes the world feel distinct. Every detail, from the accents to the football field, helps sell the quirky charm of the story. By the time the credits rolled, I was laughing and smiling, reminded of why this movie has stayed so beloved over the years. The Waterboy is not just a comedy, it is a story about believing in yourself and proving everyone wrong. It is silly, heartfelt, and unforgettable, which is why I give it a perfect 5 out of 5 stars.
