Honestly, I don't think the movie title and seemingly heavy handedness of the marketing and PG rating do this movie "just us" [justice]. If you can get past the initial expectation that this movie is ONLY for kids and will play down to the audience with physical humor and low brow plots, you will find a broad audience charming movie about some deeper topics than the movie lets on at a first glance. Even the title I think is misleading and would prefer something closer to the novel's "Three bags full" title instead. They aren't a sheep detective outfit, this isn't a movie only kids can enjoy, and more akin to something like great movies that marketed themselves a little better like "Babe - A little pig goes a long way" (on the movie poster) and "Rudy". The movie doesnt talk down to children about topics like death, feeling alone, societal bullying, wealth, the meaning of life, harsh stereotyping, criminal murder, etc; but at the same time doesn't try to hit you over the head with "The Message" of some overzealous activist. The story and moral is real and not ignorant of the fact that some life lessons are timeless and deserve to be told from any perspective, even sheep. If you don't look deep enough, you miss that unlike a lot of movie slop nowadays, this story has quite a few characters that grow through the story and have their own journeys and lessons they learn. It is a family movie, but it is also a human movie, and we need more human movies about the nature of things all humans struggle with and how we all fit together. Well done to the cast and crew and for the producers of this movie to get something done with some respect that it deserves. The audience reactions are very telling that we need more of this.

This movie has no right being this good. You think it's going to be a silly little movie about sheep solving a crime, but not only are you chuckling through the movie, you end up sobbing at the end

Fuck I need a pet What a cast. And unfortunately Lord and Miller never miss lol Can’t take Hugh Jackman seriously in any role but ESPECIALLY this one after whitewashing such an evil bigot as PT Barnum. Horrible animal abuser and killer to incredibly kind shepherd accepting animals as family gave me whiplash Watched with my mother at Warren Regal East Currently Ranked #23/67 in 2026 Ranked __________ Watch #2 Breaking the Waves coded So glad that Hugh Jackman isn’t in the whole thing. Literally playing the anti-PT Barnum lol Watched at Starlite Drive-In with my niblings

The Sheep Detectives is a funny, clever, and surprisingly heartwarming family film. The mystery keeps you guessing, the characters are lovable, and the humour works for both kids and adults. A charming, feel-good movie that's well worth watching.

🐑🔍The Sheep Detectives🐑🔍 is utterly delightful in every way possible - filled with genuine warmth, wit, and unexpected emotional depth. You're gonna think I'm insane but just trust me on this one: The Sheep Detectives is one of the best movies of the year! The director of Minions.... the writer of Chernobyl and The Last of Us... coming together to make a movie about talking sheep investigating the murder of their shepherd... this thing had me sobbing by the end. I never imagined a world where this movie worked as well as it did... and then I saw it. This thing really is something special; one of the most wholesome movies I've seen. The Sheep Detectives had no right being as charming and delightful as it was... An absolute delight from start to finish, and it features a wonderful cast across the board. It's the kind of family film that keeps you smiling and laughing the whole way through, yet never lets the stakes feel anything less than real. It's also one of the few times lately I've found myself thinking, "They just don't make them like this anymore." I could easily see it resonating with audiences in the same way Paddington does! I was enchanted by how smart, moving, and philosophical the movie was! Mazin's script is quite clever and smarter than it has any right to be, giving us a murder mystery that balances its light humour with thematic weight around mortality and social acceptance. It's thrilling with a lot of big reveals, and also very funny! It doesn't back away from a little edginess and plays like a live action Pixar at times, with its storybook quality but also its deeper themes of othering, death, and accepting hard memories. The sheep movie somehow has a more poignant reflection on death and memory than most of what comes out nowadays. It genuinely captures the feeling of those classic family adventures that studios rarely even attempt anymore - earnest, imaginative, a little weird, and completely sincere without ever becoming cynical or overly sanitized. The mystery constantly evolves in surprising ways, giving every character a meaningful role to play while still keeping the tone playful and accessible for all ages. What impressed me most is how emotionally honest it becomes by the end; beneath all the humour and talking animals is a story about grief, belonging, and learning how to carry painful memories forward without letting them define you. I laughed constantly, got unexpectedly emotional several times, and walked out of the theatre wanting to quit my job and buy a farm with sheep. A genuinely lovely movie (and a perfect blend between Knives Out and Babe)!

Not something I normally would watch and I loved it

In the capitalistic hellscape of 2026 sometimes we need a movie where the sheep are solving crimes. This is that movie. The premise is goofy, but the execution is excellent. It’s a proper whodunit. I hope they don’t do a sequel featuring cows or chickens because then I might become vegetarian.
