Freaky. I think this movie is loosely based on the urban legend of the "dybbuk box" whish is a Jewish mystical tradition. Somewhat similar to the concept of possession in Christianity. Either way...freaky.

If you came for terror, The Possession has other plans: it’s mostly a divorced-family logistics drama where the real horror is coordinating custody schedules… and the demon is just extra paperwork. Mom and Dad shuttle two kids back and forth like it’s a ping-pong tournament, and then someone buys a creepy wooden box at a yard sale because apparently therapy was closed that day. Soon the youngest starts acting possessed, and everyone’s shocked—like the box didn’t practically come with a label that says “FREE CURSE INSIDE.” To be fair, the physical horror rules: gnarly, old-school, up-close gross-out moments that don’t hide behind darkness and shaky cam. Natasha Calis is genuinely great, selling the “sweet kid to demon Airbnb” transformation way better than the movie deserves. The downside? It’s slow, predictable, and rarely scary—you can see every beat coming like a FedEx delivery… right after the obligatory “doctors say she’s fine” scene and right before Dad Googles “how to remove ancient evil from child.” Not a nightmare, but as a spooky family drama with occasional face-melting? Honestly, it’s like a haunted IKEA run: you’ll get a few good scares, but mostly you’re just watching people argue while something demonic sits in the corner.

The Exorcist, except it sucks. I laughed at it, rather than with it. Unfortunate, because it's trying to do something interesting with Jewish folklore, they have a good cast, but overall it's just... Bland and unsurprising.
