- jackmeathace 5 dMy quick rating - 5.4/10. Sometimes amusing and others kind of stupid. Had a lot of potential but just didn't quite reach it.

- Manuel Frangis29 de marzo de 2025I just watched The Happytime Murders, and I give it 4 out of 5 stars. This movie is absolutely wild. It is one of the most bizarre, inappropriate, and ridiculous comedies I have seen in a while, and that is exactly why I enjoyed it so much. It is not for everyone, and it definitely pushes the limits, but if you are into dark, raunchy humor and love weird concepts, this one delivers The whole setup is insane. It is a world where humans and puppets live together, but puppets are treated like second class citizens. The story follows a puppet private investigator named Phil who gets pulled into a murder case involving the former cast of a popular puppet TV show. It is a classic buddy cop setup, but with puppets doing drugs, cursing nonstop, and getting into absurd situations that you would never expect from something that looks like Sesame Street at first glance. Melissa McCarthy stars as the human detective working alongside Phil, and she is totally committed to the madness. Her chemistry with the puppet lead is actually great. The banter between them is sharp, quick, and full of hilarious insults and awkward moments. The way she just rolls with all the puppet chaos is one of the reasons the movie works as well as it does. What really makes The Happytime Murders stand out is how far it is willing to go. The humor is raunchy and completely over the top, and the puppets are constantly doing things you would never expect. It is the kind of movie that gets laughs just from how wrong everything feels. You do not see puppets like this every day, and that shock value hits hard the first time you watch it. The mystery itself is simple, and you can kind of see where it is going, but that is not really the point. The plot is just an excuse to let the characters run wild, throw out a ton of adult jokes, and do the most ridiculous things imaginable. It has a little bit of that film noir vibe, with shadowy streets and a washed up detective, but then someone gets hit with silly string in slow motion and you remember this is not a serious movie at all. The puppet work is actually impressive too. The puppets have so much personality, and the expressions and movements are done really well. You kind of forget you are watching puppets after a while and just start thinking of them as chaotic, foul-mouthed characters in their own right. Some of the side puppets are hilarious, and the world feels like it has its own strange logic. The pacing is solid, and the movie never drags. Every few minutes there is a new joke, a new puppet gag, or some wild moment that keeps things moving. It knows exactly what it is and does not try to be anything else. That kind of self-awareness helps a lot, especially when the jokes start getting even more absurd near the end. I give The Happytime Murders 4 out of 5 stars because it is bold, hilarious, and unlike anything else out there. It is not perfect, and not every joke lands, but it is hard to forget once you have seen it. Overall The Happytime Murders is a raunchy puppet comedy that is way funnier than it has any right to be. If you are in the mood for something weird, wrong, and totally ridiculous, this one hits the spot.
- John Chapel28 de junio de 2025There is literally only 1 funny/clever scene in this entire movie, and chances are you're watching it in 2025 because you saw that scene in a meme. So I'm spoiling it: The puppet jizzes a fountain of Silly string. For that it earns a star. The rest of the movie is inedible. The writing is the opposite of funny, mostly because the whole movie is a single joke, retold in various ways: "Puppets are usually wholesome, ergo, subvert expectations by making the puppets cheeky." Thats literally the whole movie. There is a much better version of this diarrhea concept from early 2000's sketch project Channel 101 called "Puppet Rapist". I genuinely don't know how to put Melissa McCarthy in a movie and make her boring. I mean honestly, the very fact that this movie has Behind The Scenes "Character synopsis" from their actors is the most cartoonishly pretentious thing I've ever heard of.
