Culpable Ratings & Reviews
- inta9429 de marzo de 2026Slow difficult and uncomfortable... Didn't enjoy
- Shaydeknight23 de marzo de 2026Jake Gyllenhaal delivers another controlled, intense performance. The film initially feels overwrought, almost implausibly melodramatic, but the final act reframes much of that. What seems exaggerated early on resolves quite well and only fully coheres at the end, so you'll need to be a little patient. The film gives the impression of unfolding in real time, in the manner of "24", yet several hours pass. The elasticity of time is slightly disorienting. It does not break the film, but it draws attention to itself. Antoine Fuqua's direction is restrained, thanks goodness. Extreme close-ups dominate, forcing the viewer into the protagonist's psychological space. The cuts are economical, and the balance of noise, music, and silence is carefully judged. Fuqua is pre3tty hit or miss for me, like Ridley Scott. Either he creates an amazing film or an absolute bomb, there's little middle ground. Here, he stays mostly disciplined and the result, oddly enough, is solid though not too memorable. As a concept piece, it works. One location, a single dominant protagonist, and much of the rest conveyed through calls alone. The voices are distinct enough to build a mental geography without confusion. The film relies on performance, pacing, and implication rather than spectacle, and that restraint largely pays off. At its core, the story is about a troubled man seeking redemption. It makes me a little sad to think that that premise once felt universal. Now it can feel oddly distant. The idea that someone would risk everything simply to do the right thing carries less cultural weight than it once did. The film assumes a moral framework in which guilt matters and redemption is meaningful. In a contemporary climate where consequences often seem arbitrary, that framework can feel almost old-fashioned. This doesn't weaken the film structurally, but it does change how it lands. The protagonist's moral urgency reads less as inevitability and more as personal naivete. Regardless, the movie is effective, tightly constructed, and anchored by a strong central performance. It succeeds on discipline rather than ambition. It is not especially memorable, but it is far from disposable. It is a well-executed exercise in tension, character, and moral reckoning.
- diab95311 de agosto de 2025It's a good movie. I wouldn't rate it as great, but it does keep your attention and does maintain your suspense.
- sanjayuchcharia20 de julio de 2025It's a 1h 31m movie and you only see Jake Gyllenhall on the screen the entire movie. But your mind knows who's who, who's doing what and who's where right there in the movie. That's why they highlighted in the movie poster- Listen Carefully. The tag line is deeply meaningful, "Broken People Save Broken People".
