There’s a sincerity to it that modern superhero stuff doesn’t always capture, and it makes it surprisingly easy to get into. Reeves is absolutely perfect in the role—hands down the best Superman, no debate. Hackman gives a fun, charismatic Luthor too, not Rosenbaum level but still solid in his own way. Some of the effects are definitely dated, but they don’t really take away from the experience. If anything, it just feels more charming because of it. Really solid overall.
- joshall3211 de agosto de 2025If you thought the original Superman: The Movie was already soaring high, the Expanded Edition rockets it straight into the stratosphere — cape, curl, and all. This isn't just the Superman you remember — it’s the ultimate love letter to golden-age heroism, cinematic wonder, and Christopher Reeve's pitch-perfect performance. The extra footage? Oh, it’s not fluff. It’s gold. Pure, nostalgic, John-Williams-score-backed gold. From extended Smallville moments that add emotional weight, to more screen time with Gene Hackman's delightfully scheming Lex Luthor, the expanded scenes deepen the story without ever dragging it down. And let’s talk about that score. 🎶 With the expanded cut, you get even more of John Williams’ legendary soundtrack — it practically carries you off the couch in a red cape. The audio restoration? Chef’s kiss. Every note of triumph, every swell of hope, lands harder than a speeding bullet. The effects still charm, the story still inspires, and Reeve’s Superman remains the gold standard. Watching this edition feels like being wrapped in a warm, Kryptonian blanket of heroism, idealism, and old-school movie magic. Bottom line: If you're a fan of Superman, classic cinema, or just want to feel the rush of watching a true hero take flight — this is the version to watch. Up, up, and expanded away! 💫
- M08Y5 de agosto de 2025While very clearly a product of it's time, there is an earnest optimism and general feeling of good will that shines through and keeps Superman feeling warm and fuzzy. I can't believe that it's taken me this long to sit down and watch Superman properly but it's clear to me now why people think that we will never quite recapture the Christopher Reeve magic... and maybe they are right. Reeve was quite clearly perfect for the role. The 4K bluray doesn't do much to justify it's own existence, but the more 4K blurays we get the better.
- theLillyPad19 de abril de 2025Truth, Justice, and the American way--here is a movie that doesn't just understand its titular character, it has defined him for generations to come. Sure, it has a weak third act and a bit of a Dues ex Machina there at the end, but somehow, the beating heart of the film pumps louder than all its flaws. This is THE face of Superman. THE Superman theme. THE Superman movie.
- MJ Media21 de julio de 2025My review is biased because I've watched 21st century super hero movies. Yep, this movie is 1978 and the tech is dated. But, the producers went all out with cast, screen play, and John Williams for the music soundtrack. Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder are perfect for this version. The script makes an honest effort of reflecting the comic book source material. I enjoyed watching -but- it's dated.
