An excellently made, sincere, heartfelt and well acted tribute to the Amblin movies of the 80's. You could do much worse than spend 2-hours of your time soaking up this almost forgotten gem.

Spielberg, the 80s, a bit of suspense, and a lot of science fiction. How bad can it be?? The answer is, it's not! Such a great flick that'll probably make you want to be a kid again.

Okay, it might not be a "horror movie," but it's definitely not far off. The concept and plot are so unique, the child actors do a wonderful job, and it's filmed and edited beautifully. It has similarities to Signs (2002) in that the exposition is slow and gradual. It never reveals too much at once, and it kept me engaged. I actually loved the movie more than I expected. It's flawlessly executed and has some great horror elements too. It's like a hybrid of Signs and Stranger Things. And especially if you like Stranger Things, you SERIOUSLY have to see it. It has so many striking similarities that, in my opinion, are done better. I promise you won't regret it. It's genuinely amazing. 9/10.

This is one of them movies that I’ll love forever and always, no matter how many faults can be pointed out in it. My only critique is the ending, while being very happy and leaves you feeling warm and good inside, feels off. However, the movie as a whole is so good. The kid actors all do amazing, and the movie is worth watching for Kyle Chandler’s performance/character alone. This has the same vibes to it that Sandlot, E.T., The Goonies, Holes, Home Alone, etc. have to ‘em, except this one sits atop the list for me. It makes you feel so nostalgic and like you wanna be a kid again.

It feels like a classic Spielberg movie, with a group of kids, a small town, and the classic sci-fi mystery. It starts strong and has a great nostalgic vibe, but the story gets a bit messy toward the end. Still, it’s fun to watch and has some cool moments, even if it doesn’t totally come together.

Bonus points for the pyro kid having the same first name as me (including spelling), which I have never seen in a movie before. 🤓

A bit of a nonsense plot, but fun with good cinematography.

J.J. Abrams doing Early Spielbergian sci-fi and the result is outstanding. (It probably helps when Spielberg himself is a producer.) Watched this with my kids and they all really enjoyed it. Rare that they all agree on something. Having bike riding adolescent protagonist’s but dealing with very grown up problems, taps into something almost universally appealing. (E.T., IT, Stranger Things. I’ve successfully gotten my kids to watch all of the above except for IT. The trailers terrified them, but I’m gonna keep working on it.) I really love just about everything in this movie. Love the friends dynamic and that they just mess around making films. The scenes of them blocking the scenes, rehearsing and then leading into the train crash is an incredible sequence. Loved the how Elle Fannings character is introduced into the group. The slow reveal of the monster is extremely well paced, gradually building to the climax. For real though, J.J., tone it down on the lens flare. I really don’t get the appeal of it. Really enjoyable watch with the kids and better than I remember it.
