Las vidas de Sing Sing Ratings & Reviews
- rg94001 de noviembre de 2024Sing Sing is a heartfelt examination of the impact theater and performance can have on individuals, especially individuals who are struggling with the role society would have them play, namely inmates. The movie follows a collection of inmates who are part of the RTA (Rehabilitation through Arts) program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, focusing on the dichotomy between one who really believes in the process and another who is very skeptical. It captures a lot of pathos without feeling melodramatic, often exploring how painful and Sisyphean the process can be. Interjected throughout is a surprising amount of comedy as the play the group is putting together is meant to bring humor into the lives of the rest of the prisoners. At times, the runtime can feel a bit long, and there's a section right before the ending that feels slightly rushed. However, outside of these minor quibbles, the rest of the movie is fantastic. It often reminded me of one of the greatest movies of all time -- Shawshank Redemption. I highly recommend it.
- SirMonkalot14 de marzo de 2026Brilliant performances all around. There is so much humanity in this film, it’s such a beautiful thing. Truly perfect from start to end.
- darsan15 de julio de 2025beautiful story and amazing acting from coleman domingo and the score is underrated.
- Karisma Putera12 de julio de 2025Phenomenal film. Incredible acting from a cast consistent of ex-inmates. Shot beautifully and authentically. Explores emotional issues within the black community fantastically. May the RTA live on forever.
- Kevin Ward1 de julio de 2025Beautiful true life story about a group of inmates that find salvation in the founding of a prison theater group, Rehabilitation Through Art (RTA), where they produce theatrical plays. The film emphasizes the power of art of theater, one that can reignite the inmates belief in their own humanity in an institution that perpetually dehumanizes them. Echoes a lot of the elements of Shawshank Redemption, but feels much more poignant given the impact the RTA has had on the lives of these individuals and it’s impact on recidivism. Colman Domingo is incredible and I’m betting is headed for his second consecutive best actor nomination, but the emotional impact of the film is most felt in the real-life RTA members portraying themselves in the film. Clarence Maclin absolutely owns the screen in his incredible debut. Inspiring and moving. Highly recommend.
- Megan Cruz18 de marzo de 2025It’s absolutely criminal that this masterpiece didn’t get more attention.
- Luke Erickson7 de marzo de 2025Definitely a slow burn. My mom was a theater teacher so I have tons of respect for theater people. They have a passion and I'm a little sorry I didn't catch the calling. The movie has some great acting and interesting stories. I thought it was pretty good.

- Hakihiko16 de diciembre de 2024A Powerful Exploration of Hope Through Art "Sing Sing" is a moving and insightful drama that explores how incarcerated men can find hope and redemption through a unique theater program within a maximum-security prison. Directed by Greg Kwedar, the film dives into themes of self-expression, identity, and rehabilitation, showing how art can transform lives even in the most difficult environments. One of the film's key strengths is its authenticity. With many cast members being formerly incarcerated men, Sing Sing feels raw and genuine in its portrayal of prison life. Colman Domingo delivers a standout performance as the lead, bringing emotional depth and nuance to his character. His journey from a man hardened by life in prison to someone rediscovering a sense of purpose through the arts is both compelling and heartfelt. Domingo's portrayal makes the character's emotional transformation believable and powerful. The film effectively captures the harsh realities of prison while highlighting the humanity of its characters. The theater program serves as a tool for these men to confront their pasts, express their emotions, and imagine a better future. The emotional beats are well-handled, and the film avoids unnecessary sentimentality, instead delivering moments of genuine hope and connection. Visually, the film is intimate and reflective of its setting, with the stark, confined spaces of the prison contrasting beautifully with the warmth of the characters' interactions. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the story to develop naturally without rushing through key emotional moments. Overall, Sing Sing is a deeply affecting film that showcases the power of art and human connection. With strong performances and a meaningful story, it's a film that resonates. I'd rate it 8 (or 8.5) for its emotional depth, authenticity, and thought-provoking themes.
