My absolute favorite Shakespeare play and version! Emma Thompson definitely steals the entire movie!

Verily, one did marvel how such a mighty and renowned cast could have lent their names unto this spectacle unseen. Yet that wonder endured but briefly, for scarce thirty seconds into its running I perceived the whole affair was spoken in a most confounding tongue of utter gobbledegook. Not a single damned word did I comprehend. Still, I did strive to follow the tale as best I might, though in truth I remain uncertain the torment was worth the labour. And that final chapter - good heavens - it is naught but folly. It resembleth less a grand motion picture and more some clumsy schoolhouse play. At last, did the curtain then fall, I was left persuaded that the whole contrivance was, in plainest truth, a bit crap.

The casting is all over the place, but there's much good here, and much that has since been lost to cinema, that is a delight—primarily in the "earnest rejoicing in the frivolity of being" that we last saw an unabashed display of in Peter Jackson's LotR trilogy. And, like the play, it gets rather intense for a comedy before its characters eventually work everything out in the end. Highlights are (of course) Brian Blessed, Emma Thompson, and Kenneth Branagh. I thought Keaton's character was overwrought. And while Denzel used to always be charming, I can't help but feel like I'm watching *acting* rather than being lost in a performance like Blessed or Thompson.
